The bards of the water castle fall victim to a mysterious spell. They rewrite their memories and enrich their repertoire with new dangerous legends. In Khelben, Arunsun, the chief wizard of the Deep Castle, suspects a conspiracy. He entrusts Danilo, the Kobzos wizard and bard candidate, to face a green dragon, the key to mystery. To do this, Danilo has formed an alliance with his old enemy, Elaith Craulnobur, the Tramp Elf. Danilo and his two new companions, a golden elf wandering singer with special abilities and a sharp-witted dwarf woman, soon find puzzles and find questions in their intricate web. The life of the bards is harder than he ever thought, and Danilo will need all his strength to be able to control his newly acquired special power.
